European Nations Championships - Sunday Competition Day The 500m class made it three in a row for the Premier Women and provided an opportunity for them to perform their celebration dance routine to the crowded stands. The silver and bronze medallists were happy to join in with the moves along with many of the GB supporters who once again turned out in droves. The Grand Dragons had provided the warm up act with their bronze medal presentation ceremony. |

Gold Again with a Touch of Silver! |

Saturday Competition Day
The Premier Women struck gold again in the 200m class after storming through their heat. The Grand Dragons were equally impressive in their heat to go through to the major final without the semi. Just 2 thousandths of a second separated them and Ukraine on the line to deny the Grand Dragons gold in their first international outing. The re-shaped Senior Women secured a convincing second place ahead of the Czechs falling just short of the established German crew. The U18's running almost the same crew in mixed and open once again coped brilliantly with the much stronger opposition and secured convincing minor final wins against the youngsters from the Netherlands. The Senior Open were a fraction off qualifying from their heat and the same again in the semi in a blanket finish with only the first 2 going through to the major final. They took the honours in their minor final with consistent times throughout the day. The Senior Mixed again met tough opposition but disappointed the home supporters with a win in their final race against the Netherlands. Will Sunday complete the set for the Premier Women and bring more medals? Watch this space... |

Friday Competition Day The Premier Women once again showed the way with an impressive win in the 2000m racing in Amsterdam. With the benefit of a clear run in the early legs of the race they powered their way through to gain several seconds on the German ladies ahead of them before the final turn. Germany proved to be a good pace setter for the girls as they finished the equivalent of over half a boat length up on Czech Republic and nearly a boat length on Hungary. |

European Nations Championships |
|
Friday, 13 August 2010 |
|
The 9th European Nations Championships begin today (Friday 13th) in Amsterdam. Great Britain crews will be hoping that Friday the 13th treats them well in the 2000m race which is the first event that most of the crews will compete in. GB is represented in 7 classes, Grand Dragons Open, Senior Open, Senior Women, Senior Mixed, Premier Women and Under 18 in both open and mixed. Racing begins late in the day after the traditional opening ceremony with eye dotting to awaken the dragon. The shallow waters of the Bosbaan are likely to give the crews a bumpy ride as up to a dozen crews battle their way a couple of times around the 500m long oval course. The race demands a high level of fitness and a good helping of luck, not a good day to be racing for the superstitious! All the results for the competition will be posted in 'real time' to the EDBF site (edbf.org) at www.edbf.org/enc2010/ although these will need to be officially confirmed. The finish line recording system will automatically post the finishing order to the site so these could be subject to change if there are any racing infringements or penalties levied on crews. Visit the championships website for full results (www.enc2010.com). Check out GB progress here - if we're not too busy racing! |
